A Walk in May
A Walk in May
Type: Walking
Submitted by:David Whipp
Item Location: Letcliffe Park, Manchester Road, Barnoldswick BB18 5HE

Description:

Here are some pictures from a short walk from Letcliffe Park on a sunny May Sunday.

We left Letcliffe by the stone style in the eastern boundary wall of the park and crossed to the end of Hodge Lane. The main picture shows the single tree atop the hill looking east.

Above Eastcliffe, we passed the ruined cottage and viewed the Barnoldswick vista before contouring along the hillside and crossed the lane which leads to Moor Side.

Following the wall side path, our walk took us through a buttercup filled meadow, then pasture with grazing sheep and their lambs.more

Evening walk to Thornton
Evening walk to Thornton
Type: Walking
Submitted by:David Whipp
Item Location: Car Park at Greenberfield Locks, Barnoldswick BB18 5SU

Description:

A sunny June evening is a pleasant time for a short walk to Thornton.

Our route is along the canal at Greenberfield then cutting across the fields from Dodge Carr Laithe to Thornton Church.

After crossing the road, we followed the path through the fields past the radio mast at Nutter Cote, crossed the golf course and returned along Ghyll Lane.

Plenty of grass was being cut amongst the drumlins, whilst ducklings and goslings preened themselves on the grass by the water's edge with swallows and martins swooping overhead.

The trig point near the radio mast is a good 360 degree viewpoint, with fine views over Barlick to Weets and Pendle Hill.

Ginnel Gather Walk 2013
Type: Walking
Submitted by:David Whipp
Item Location: Start at Barnoldswick Town Square BB18 5AA

Description:

Barnoldswick held its second annual Ginnel Gather at the beginning of September 2013 as part of heritage activities in the town.

The event celebrates the scores of ginnels, snickets and alleyways within the town with a walk of about two hours around the hidden corners of Barnoldswick.

The 2013 route includes sections through all the town's parks and skirts Barnoldswick's industrial heartland alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

The gallery images were taken on a recce of the route during August bank holiday weekend but were not used in the leaflet produced for the event.more

November sunshine
November sunshine
Type: Walking
Submitted by:David Whipp
Item Location: From Victory Park, West Close Road, Barnoldswick BB18 5RR

Description:

A bright November day was a good time for a short walk around Victory Park, along Greenberfield Lane, up to the canal and to the locks. Then back past Bankfield.

Some trees clung to their vividly coloured leaves. With others, bare branches patterned the sky.

Here are some of my pictures from the walk.
